1. GETTING INTO SHAPE
My first thought of the shape scholarship was a sense of relief and happiness. I found out about Shape through posters on the campus passages. I had been looking and longing for such a program, especially one that is conducted and in partnership with UKZN. I applied with fellow classmates and I sometimes had sleepless nights thinking about whether I will be shortlisted or not. Days went by and I personally went to our Shape leader to find out if I succeeded. The answer was yes I made the cut. That is when I started believing that God is giving me a sign as to what my purpose should be.
Thus far Shape has opened up my thinking and the way I should perceive Business and the environment as a whole. My experience and interaction with new people in this program has kept me going, knowing that there young people that are as ambitious and dedicated to fulfilling their dreams of being successful entrepreneurs. As the shape program continues I intend to give it my all, attend, interact and grow as much as possible to make sure this opportunity is not in vain.
2. HOPES AS A YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR
As a young entrepreneur I have big hopes. My initial hope is to find joy and contentment in whatever business I venture into. Yes the money will be a bonus but at the end I do not wish to be wealthy and frustrated. My hope is that I with the business I start will make a difference in the community it serves by providing jobs and a proper working environment. I wish to start up a number of businesses in the next few years. With all the risk that awaits me I believe that God will guide me. I aspire to be the best that I can be but also bearing in mind that there is no gain without pain. Steve Jobs once said, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice, and most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
