CENTRE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SMALL ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT

The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise Development (CESED) at University of Cape has over the years supported the growing and maturing of businesses ideas of students and staff, whilst building the capacity of Micro Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) through its business incubator and entrepreneurship education and training unit. The University and CESED have also rolled out and created the Design Thinking and the Innovation Hub (D-HUB) which also aims at developing and nurturing transformational and entrepreneurial leaders using design thinking and who would serve as change agents within the communities in which they live. Over the years the Centre in collaboration and partnership with the African Institute for Transformational Entrepreneurship (AITE) spearhead by Professors Gideon Maas and Paul Jones have organized various activities, workshops and conferences to championed entrepreneurship education and activities in Ghana and on the African continent.   The purpose is to promote and implement the concept of circular economy amongst these enterprises. Currently it is working with the Rainforest Alliance to build the entrepreneurial and managerial skills and competencies of small holder farmers in selected districts in the Central Region of Ghana. CESED’s involvement in the network partnership involved:

  • Conceptualisation of the project
  • Conducting of the initial baseline survey
  • Participation in the development of the Agri Entrepreneurship curriculum for the UKZN
  • Contribution to knowledge, information and expertise through project meetings and workshops
